With TravelVu, users can monitor their daily trips and activities, obtaining summaries of distances traveled and modes of transportation employed on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The aggregated data contribute valuable insights for urban planners seeking to develop more efficient transportation systems.
Participants may choose to either donate their data by opting into the "Donate Data" feature or enroll in specific surveys they have been invited to participate in. The donation option is suitable for users not engaged in a designated survey.
The application employs GPS continuously during movement, which may lead to increased battery consumption. To mitigate this, TravelVu leverages accelerometer data to temporarily pause GPS tracking when the user is stationary, thereby conserving device energy.
